Since my early 20’s, I have lived with chronic allergies, hay fever, digestive issues, migraines, joint inflammation and back pain. Seven years ago I was in a car accident that ruptured two disks in my back and required a spinal fusion.
About 4 years ago, my knees felt so swollen, I could barely walk. After visiting a rheumatoid doctor and having blood work done, she couldn’t find anything definitive; therefore, she diagnosed it as fibromyalgia with 11 tender points out of 18 with no treatment available.
About two years ago, the inflammation progressed to my hips. I had 2 injections in the tendons. After 8 weeks, I had more pain. The doctor then wanted to have an MRI-guided injection directly into the hip joint. I didn’t want to do that and contacted my chiropractic friend, Dr. Kevin Parker in Irvine, CA, to ask what he would recommend.
After reviewing my supplements, exercise program, etc., he suggested a gluten free diet. I began the diet, and within 3 days, I had tremendous results. The inflammation and pain lessened, the allergies and mental fatigue went away, my digestion improved and I began sleeping better. I’ve now been on this diet for over 1-1/2 years and have had only one migraine, where I used to have them about every two months. My back pain is no longer an issue, and my knees only flare up when I get really stressed.
This diet has been a miracle for me, and I am thankful to Dr. Parker and Dr. Hyman that they are willing to look to alternatives instead of more pharmaceuticals to help people.
