It will be your doctor who will decide the fact that how long do you need the drainage system for. This is because each patient heals differently. You must record the amount of drainage every twenty four hours. Be hygienic You must maintain a good level of hygiene. When your drains are still in place you cannot take a shower but you must take a sponge bath every day. Once your drains are removed you can go for a normal shower. An abdominal binder or a compression garment must is put at the end of operation to support your abdominals. This support system must be put on at all times for four weeks. An extra garment can be issued by the doctor when you go for a follow up visit. This extra garment will ensure good hygiene levels.
