"We must make the choices that enable us to fulfill the deepest capacities of our real selves." - Thomas Merton
In a society where first impressions are based on outward appearance, an individual's character is assessed by his or her ability to lose a few pounds, and body size determines beauty, it is no wonder eating disorders, dysfunctional eating patterns, and chronic dieting (which, sorry to say, does not work) are on the rise. I believe in order to create healthier versions of ourselves, we must find an outlet for our abilities, share these gifts with others, and see our bodies, our healthy bodies, as a means to better this world. We must treat our God-given homes (our physical bodies) as we would our most prized possession. This includes feeding it sufficiently (not in deficiency or over-abundance) and properly. We need a shift of mind set: from seeing our bodies as a display of our worth to utilizing ourselves as tools for making the world a better place. I urge you to find your purpose, your passion, and allow this to be your motivation for taking care of your physical being. You are the only you. You are the only one who can do what you were made to do. Pursue healthy living in order to take hold of every opportunity to do what only you can do.
