The Wisdom of the Ages – in a Bowl {Nature’s Path Product Review}

Posted Nov 15 2010 8:31am

Good Morning Bloggies!!

I hope you had wonderful weekends <3 I’m going to recap mine for you tomorrow because I’d like to kick of my week with a product review.

A couple of weeks ago the fine folks from Nature’s Path contacted me to tell me they were sending some Kirkland Signature and Nature’s Path Ancient Grain Granola with Almonds my way. As this would be my first mail-in sample, I was dancing with excitement for the two weeks or so it took to arrive at my doorstep.

While I waited, I did what I always do when trying new products from new companies – researched. I’m pretty much Hermione Granger’s foodie equivalent, although I use the internet instead of browsing through the forbidden section of my local library.

Nature’s Path Organic was founded in 1985 in Richmond, British Columbia. It’s family-owned (love this) and lives by the motto “Nurturing People, Nature & Spirit,” (love this too.) Today it holds the much-deserved place of number one organic cereal manufacturer in North America. I love their Mesa Sunrise, Corn Flake and Millet Cereals, and am looking forward to expanding my repertoire.

Their Ancient Grains Granola arrived to add “the wisdom of the ages,” to my breakfast bowl in the form of a granola combined of five ancient grains: Spelt, Kamut, Amaranth, Quinoa and Oats.

We always  seek to use the most innovative, nutritious ingredients and sometimes that means looking back rather than forward. People in ancient civilizations around the globe ate grains that may seem exotic to us, but were staples in their diets due to their health benefits,” said Arran Stephens, President and Founder of Nature’s Path. “We’ve combined five of those grains in one delicious cereal to create a high fiber, whole grain breakfast that stands the test of time.”

Now that you know a little bit more about the company, let’s take a peek at the box they sent me

My excitement doubled when I opened the box. The packaging was so cute, as well as sexily sustainable:

They also included some information about the product, the company, a couple of recipes to try with their various lines and, my favorite next to the product itself, three recipe cards (tied with twine, no less) using the Ancient Grains Granola that covered breakfast (muffins) a smoothie (banana granola, yumm) and a salad GARNISHED with granola. Genius. I’m having that for dinner.

There was no way I was going to be able to wait to bake these tidbits into breakfast muffins this morning, so I did what I do best and oated them up ;) onto my oat bran they went, and after a couple of impatiently-snapped spoon pics, I was kamut heaven.

You know how some granola can be cloyingly sweet? This stuff is perfect. It’s lightly sweetened, deliciously nutty and even almost spicy because of the various grains and nuts it contains. Honestly delicious. I’ve already started planning the rest of today’s meals around the rest of the things I’m going to do with it. I can’t wait to make a granola-”crouton” salad.

After eating this ancient cereal I definitely felt a little wiser ;) whether that was the brain-happy whole grains or the wisdom of the ages, we’ll never know. Thanks so much for sending this my way, Hailey!

  • Question 1: Have you tried the Nature’s Path Brand? If so, what is your favorite product?
  • Question 2: Are you a granola fan? How do you use it? I love mine to add crunch to my oats and yogurt messes, and I make a mean trail mix with it, too :)
  • Question 3: What was the best breakfast of your weekend?
