…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith… Hebrews 12: 1d-2b
Life is something that is completely unpredictable. Often times the unpredictability can lead to feelings of uncertainty, hopelessness, and often times a feeling of being overwhelmed. However, I have come to find that throughout my life unpredictability often leads to something beautifully unexpected. Something that can be cherished and that enriches our lives in ways we never thought possible.
I truly believe that life is like a winding road. There will always be twists, turns, occasional bumps, and even sometimes really big hills. But living life to the fullest means encompassing ourselves with love and faith and consciously making an effort to persevere on the road of life no matter what lies ahead. Often times, there is something beautiful behind the bends in the road and many times something wonderful awaits us at the tops of those mountains.
We all have obstacles that we must overcome, but I truly believe that God will never present us with anything that we cannot handle….even if it feels like things could not possibly get any worse.
Whatever your struggle, whether you are experiencing relationship issues, personal issues, work issues, a move, an illness, or even possibly financial struggles, I encourage you to truly close your eyes and envision yourself approaching a hill. Your hill is your struggle. No matter how big that hill is, know that peace, love, and the plan God has for you awaits you at the top as you face it.
I encourage you to look to the stepping stones and little blessings throughout your life that can sometimes be unnoticed or overlooked. For these key factors can help you overcome any hill that you might approach on the road of life.
Below are a few examples of such factors:
Family/Friends- Having a support system of friends or people who can provide support and a safety net always provides comfort in many ways.
Faith- Faith is something that can constantly carries you through no matter what happens in life. Knowing that there is a master plan and that everything will be okay can bring a sense of peace like no other.
Pets- Sometimes I think animals can sense when their owners are going through a sticky time! They always seem to know and are always willing to to simply be there for you each and every day-tail waggin’ and all!
Laughter- Sometimes when things become a little crazy nothing can compare to a good joke or something really funny! Laughter actually helps our bodies to reduce certain stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline…thus allowing us to focus more on the task at hand….getting to the top of our hill!
Taking Care of Yourself- Sometimes when times become difficult or when struggles present themselves, taking the time to go to workout or cook a healthy meal can seem like the last thing that is important. However, I truly believe this aspect of overcoming obstacles is so very important. Taking care of yourself will provide you with the essential base and foundation to have the strength to overcome your obstacle.
Hobbies- Do something that you love! Whether it is volunteering, going for a walk, baking, taking photographs…it doesn’t matter! Just find something that you enjoy and that will give you a moment to take a breath and break along the way as you climb your hill!
We all will at sometime face an obstacle. Sometimes they are small, other times they seem large, and occasionally multiple obstacles will present themselves all at the same time. I encourage you to envision life as a winding road and obstacles as mere hills along the way. There is always smooth, flat, and beautiful roads that will follow. When one comes your way, simply take a breath, know the key factors that will encourage you and help you to face your hill head on, and take one step at a time. You will reach the top before you know it and something beautiful and amazing will await you! There is always a reason for everything in life, and battles small and large can often open new doors and shed light on a path or twist in the road that might have gone unnoticed otherwise.
There may or may not have been an emergency apartment move that took place recently due to a little incident with a hot water heater and mold (ewww!) but these above factors really made the process a little bit like an adventure and helped carry me through to the other side! With that being said, I believe baking a little batch of these…. is necessary to celebrate reaching the top! Who is with me :)
