The Versatile Lentil

Posted May 07 2010 9:21am
Do you use lentils in your cooking? I love them! I used them last night to make lentil burgers so I thought I would do a quick review on how to prepare them.

Lentils aren't like regular dried beans that need to soak before you cook them. Also, they only need about 35 minutes to cook (where regular beans usually need an hour). I do recommend giving your lentils a rinse before you use them. Just measure out how much you are going to use, put them in a sieve and run the water through Then, put them in a pot and cover them with about an inch of water Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer for 35 minutes or until water is absorbed. Then, you can do what you wish with your lentils.

I cooked extra lentils last night. I used the bulk of them to make the burgers I plan to use the rest to make a simple brown rice and lentil salad. Stay tuned for the recipe.

Thank you to everyone who voted in my poll!!! If you haven't done so, please read my poll question and help me decide the future of my blog. So far, you have indicated that you would like updates on research I find in my nutrition studies. I can do that, there are interesting results being released every day that the general media doesn't pick up on.
