The St. Patrick’s Day 5K Recap

Posted Mar 18 2013 6:42am

Good morning and Happy Monday! Hard to believe we are already half through March.

How was your St. Patrick’s Day? I did my 2nd 5K of the year yesterday afternoon, a St. Patrick’s Day race for charity. I wore a green tank top and even had some green hair! Check it out!

We loved the t-shirts we received for this race. One of my all-time favorites. Many people changed immediately into the shirt to do the 5K.

I didn’t take a picture of my Garmin after the race, but my unofficial time was 55:35. It was a beautiful day and unseasonably warm. I made the all too common mistake of starting off too fast. In fact, in the initial 1/2 mile, my pace was 15:00/minute. WAYYYYY too fast since I want to stay between an 18 and 19 minute pace for the time being. Needless to say, I was hurting within the first mile. This was the first race I truly contemplated taking a DNF (did not finish). I was close to the start/finish line at this time and truly considered just going to sit down and rest my leg. I just couldn’t do it though.

There really is a good side and a bad side of the race. The good side is that I can tell without a doubt that the surgery to my right calf was a success. It is not tensing up, going numb, or anything. The bad side is that I am almost positive I will wind up having the same surgery on my left leg this year, possibly soon. I plan to call the doctor this week and make an appointment to discuss. If the surgery can make my right leg feel good, there is no reason to wait on having it done on my left leg.

The race advertised free pizza and beer after the race. I think they had far more people register than expected because the lines were HUGE. Like wait an hour huge. And there were two huge lines – one for beer and one for pizza. With the weather so beautiful, they could have set up outside with many more tables and lines. Since none of us felt like standing in lines for hours, we left and headed to another local brewery for a late lunch/early dinner.

Now it is time to start another week. A few things I am looking forward to this week:

  • Dinner tonight with a few of my 31 teammates. Always fun to have a girl’s night out.
  • Yoga on Wednesday – loving this class. Need to adjust my schedule to fit at least one more yoga class in during the week.
  • TRX on Thursday – my most challenging class ever. Luckily Fridays are always rest days, I need it for recovery.
  • A 2K walk on Saturday (which happens to be 1.24 miles)

I would love if you head to my health coach site, www.LadyHealthGuru.com , and sign up for my free newsletter. The signup is on the home page, on the right. I will start sending out newsletters in April and you don’t want to miss out.

Don’t forget about my DietBet starting March 29th . I am certainly ready to shed a few pounds and I suspect some of you are to. Only $20 to join and you could LOSE some weight and GAIN some money at the same time. That’s what I call a WIN-WIN.

What exciting things do you have planned for the week? Did you race this weekend? Share with me!

Enjoy your day!
