The Search For Cold Weather Running Gear Begins

Posted Oct 21 2011 12:00am

October 21, 2011

When I go shopping for clothes I am all about finding quality for as little money as possible. My thing is finding high-end designer clothes for  (relatively) cheap and I like to think I am pretty good at it. As for work out gear, I do not really see the point in spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on clothing that I going to be sweaty and gross in. However, I am a huge  Lululemon fan and could dress an entire family for about a week with the amount of yoga/running apparel I have from that store. I guess you could say I am a bit of a Lululemon snob. That said, I do tend to wait until their apparel is marked down and I frequent their “we made too much” section on their website.

I started my search for good quality running gear for the cooler months yesterday and I am pretty proud of what I was able to find. Obviously, I checked the Lululemon website first, but even their sale section was a bit expensive and the sizes were verylimited. I did see this amazing jacket but I am not about to spend $100 on it (Christmas present?!):

Next, I looked on Athleta (another brand that belongs to Gap, Inc.) which had a sale on their mark down items: an extra 20% off the sale prices. Similarly to Lululemon, the choices were limited and there really weren’t a whole lot of cold weather options.

I then stumbled upon Old Navy which I always forget about and they frequently have great deals.  I have purchased cheap yoga apparel from Old Navy before and the quality is great for the price. On top of the great sale prices on activewear, yesterday they had an extra 30% the entire purchase promotion (I checked back today and it has now dropped to 25% which is still a great deal). I bought three things for a grand total of $38.50. The price before the 30% discount was $55 (still really great for just the sale alone) so I qualified for free shipping as well.

This is what I purchased:

Compression Capris in Black :

Originally: $26.94, After Discounts/Promotions: $10.50

Compression Pants in Carbon:

Originally: $29.94, After Discounts/Promotions: $10.50

Hooded Running Top in Iris:

Originally: $29.94, After Discounts/Promotions: $17.50

Two pairs of bottoms and a hoodie for under $40? It’s pretty much a no brainer. So, I suggest if you are looking for some cheap running/yoga/basic gym clothes check out Old Navy within the next few days.

Hopefully the clothing I bought is a good start to my cold weather running wardrobe. I will be on the search for more quality gear for cheap within the next few weeks.
