When I was home with my family last weekend, I made a big brunch of eggs, toast, fruit salad and bacon on Sunday, and my younger brother invited his new girlfriend to join us.
When everyone was complimenting my cooking, his girlfriend’s eyes got wide and she got a big smile on her face and said, “Oh my gosh, I hear you’re like the oatmeal GURU! I love oatmeal, and Ben taught me some of your tricks!”
I looked over at my brother, and he was shaking his head. “You opened my eyes to an entire new world of oatmeal!”
My brother used to one of those instant-oats-in-a-packet kind of guys. In an attempt to change this, I made him my cinnamon banana stovetop oats last time I was home. This time when I got home, I noticed a ginormous container of organic rolled oats in the cupboard and no boxes of instant oatmeal in sight. When I asked him about it, he said he adds strawberries and chocolate protein powder to his and it blows the old stuff out of the water.
Speaking of strawberries, I might have a new favorite combo. In an effort to conserve sunflower seed butter (can you believe a jar is supposed to last two weeks?), I’ve been making a strawberry/banana/vanilla combo with cocoa nibs and flax added.
I know I post a lot about oatmeal, but I’m not going to apologize. I’ll just keep on going, changing lives one bowl of oats at a time ;)
