3 days post-marathon and I feel very blessed to be about 80% back to normal. My legs are feeling way better that I expected. The only real issue I’ve had is with my big toes and my longest toe on the left foot—the toenails feel like someone slammed them in a car door and the longest toenail has turned purple. The jury is still out if it is going to stay or go.
For the past 3 days I have done nothing except bask in the post-marathon glory. I have biked to the train station a few times and I have walked to work like normal.
And I got a 20-minute leg massage today, which felt like heaven. The masseuse knew exactly what she was doing.
My “plan” for the next four weeks revolve around Hal Higdon’s post-marathon recovery plan. This is a very loose plan and more than anything I’ll be listening to my body to see how it feels. Tomorrow I am going to try my first post-marathon run.
Now that the marathon is over, I want to begin rebuilding my base mileage and just have fun with running.
