'S' is for Sunday...
And Sunday means starting the day off with a long run. I decided I'd head down to the store to run with the Run Club for the first time in ages. And it was awesome. Tons of new faces but it was nice to run with a group again.
Their clinic is actually 1 week ahead of my own training plan, but I'd really like to run Sundays with them and think I'll just jump ahead on the long distances (should be okay since I'm actually already conditioned for 21km) but keep my midweek runs as planned. So today we ran 12km and it felt like just the right distance for my first post-race long run.
'S' is for sunny...
And that's what it looked like when I got up this morning. After days of grey and rain and even snow, it was a very welcome surprise. The forecast said it would be cold so I still dressed in my warm stuff, but it was lovely to run with sunglasses on again.
'S' is unfortunately for sweaty...
Unfortunately I pulled a bit of a rookie move with those warm clothes though. The forecast was for 0 degrees so I put on my warm tights, a warm inner top, my coat, Smartwook socks, ear muffs and gloves. I felt great for the first few kms of the run, but then we hit our first hill and poof! I was too hot. Off came the gloves and I unzipped my coat. A few kms down the road, I actually stopped to take off the coat, tie it around my waist and readjust my water belt. Much better, but I was still a bit warm. Oh, and I also lost my route map at that point. I think either a lighter shirt under my coat, or a vest, or even just lose the coat and I would have been perfect. My gloves always come on and off and on again throughout a run, but today I just had too many warm clothes on. Whoops.
'S' is also for successful...
Although I was too warm, it was still a great run! I got plenty of time to run and talk with my favourite clinic instructor and get some tips for this round of training. Thankfully, my Garmin also made it through the whole run without any problems. I'm still trying to decide if I want to a) wait and see what happens b) get it repaired or replaced with a refurbished unit or c) replaced altogether with a new one. We'll see.
We ended up running about 12 km, although my Garmin only tracked 11.59 km of it because I forgot to restart my Garmin right away after my clothing pitstop (oops). Our overall time was 1:14 and our avg pace was 6:34/km. I'm happy with that.
'S' is lastly for snow...
After such a lovely and bright morning (well, there were dark clouds in the distance) our weather kind of went like this - sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, cloudy, snowy, cloudy, rainy, sunny, snowy, dark cloudy, snowy, clear, sunny... It was crazy. I'm just thankful that the snow held off until later in the day and also hasn't accumulated at all. Phew. Who knows what'll happen tonight though?
Oh! And 'S' is also for spicy...
Not that I normally report my dinner, but I'll make an exception since it kind of starts with an s too, tonight we've got Thai yellow curry on the menu with coconut rice. Yum.
