the fork dip: a trick to making your salads even healthier.

Happy Tuesday! Monday was a rough one for me – I was overtired which put me in a cranky mood and made my workout feel tougher than it should. Thankfully I’ve put it behind me now that I’ve caught up on sleep! It’s crazy what being sleep deprived can do to your body – thankfully there’s an easy fix for that!
I have a quick but super awesome post for you today, all thanks to my pal and co-intern, Maria! One day last week Maria and I grabbed a quick salad for lunch, dressing on the side of course. I couldn’t help but notice that Maria had a quirky way of eating a salad. Unlike me, Maria didn’t pour her entire container of dressing onto her greens.
First she dips…
and then loads up her fork. I was totally perplexed by this but Maria, who’s just a bit older and wiser, quickly informed me that this is one of “the oldest dieting tricks in the book.”
I raised an eyebrow but she promised me she did not feel deprived of dressing. The skeptic in me had to try it myself.
O.M.G. I still had half of my dressing left and felt completely satisfied with every bite. I think this might be the answer to keeping salads healthy, which can quickly become super unhealthy with just a bit too much heavy dressing. You know I’m all about real food (i.e. there’s no non-fat cheese or dressing in my fridge) but this is a fabulous little trick to enjoying the dressings you really want and love without pouring on the guilt.
Oh, and it also takes you a little bit longer to eat – which means there’s more time to enjoy it! Try it next time you have a salad and let me know what you think!
