The Eureka! APEX 2XT

Posted May 22 2011 8:56am

Eureka! has introduced the new APEX 2XT . We used it on our latest backpacking adventure in the Smoky Mountains. The APEX 2XT has noticeable improvements from the APEX XT we have used for years. For starters the vestibule area is much larger providing more dry space and an easier entry and exit into the tent. The tent is taller and wider than the prior model as well. The dual screen doors are also bigger providing for increased cross ventilation. We stayed cool in the tent on a particularly stagnant night and had an opportunity to test out the waterproof qualities of the tent after a flash flood hit us the last night. Yikes! The tent performed exceptionally well in the deluge and the rain fly did a great job keeping us dry. Additionally, the floor design on the APEX 2XT keeps water from flowing into the tent or seeping in during rain storms. The tent is easily set up by one person and two can set it up in less than 5 minutes.

The APEX 2XT is very reasonable priced for a backpacking tent, however, the poles are a bit heavy and long compared to other brands. The APEX 2XT weighs in at a little over six (6) pounds. If there are two people to divide the weight amongst, the weight should not be an issue. If you are looking for a multi-day trip tent or looking to fast pack, however, you might want to spend the extra money and invest in a tent with lighter poles. Eureka! offers quite a few options weighing in at under five (5) pounds. Whichever tent you select from Eureka! , you will rest comfortably and stay dry while at camp.
