The end of the running season?

Posted Oct 06 2010 12:00am

Last night was my last road runners class!  It is so dark out now, that I am almost happy it is over.  The workout was the same as last week’s, except we decided to go with the intermediate group rather than the advanced group.  This made all the difference in the world!  For the first time ever, I didn’t feel like I was dying at the end of every leg!  I ran hard, but didn’t have to struggle to keep up!  Instead of almost dying to be at the very back of the pack, I was able to stay at the front with moderate effort.

The workout:

  • Run from East 90th to West 67th with 4 speed pick ups.
  • 2x sprint repeats of the last .2 miles of the marathon
  • Jog back to 81st and Park.

I think the total was around 5 miles.

We celebrated the last class with a nice dinner at Beyoglu !

This place was a great pick.  Affordable, high quality food and generous portions.

I had the vegetarian platter which included: hummus, babaganoush, tabouli, grape leaves, yogurt and chopped vegetable salad.  YUM!

After that, I finally saw the True Blood finale!  Lots of loose ends!

This weekend will be the Staten Island Half Marathon.  The only major distance race I am running this year.  I feel like I will finish, but maybe could have done a few more long runs.  But I am looking forward to running a real race!

The course is out an back, which can be tough mentally!  But we run right through Fort Wadsworth, where I sat for 4.5 hours before starting the NYC marathon last year, so I should feel inspired.

And the bitter end….

I also have a few more things on the running docket to formally close out the season:

Cross Country 5K in Van Cortlandt Park

The First Annual NYRR 5.  I am debating this one.  A medal and tech shirt make it tempting.  I also have the luxury of a 10AM work start time, so the fact that the race is on a Friday morning is okay.  But do I really need to spend $18 on another race? Oh, decisions!

On a different, more important note, LET’s GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
