Quite simply, the health benefits of juicing are countless.
I’m not talking about your straight out of the carton, pasteurized and devoid of most nutritional content juices. This is all about fresh juices with no added ingredients or preservatives, whether they’re made at home or from one of the many juice stores that are popping up.
Sipping on a fresh juice is one of the easiest ways to get your five-a-day, if not more, in one filling glass. Playing around with different produce means you will never get bored of particular flavours, and consuming a wide mix of fruit and vegetables provides your body with a powerhouse of different nutrients to give your immune system a boost.
Feeling sluggish? Lemon, apple and grapefruit are all great cleansers. Under the weather? Supercharge the Vitamin C with a mix of orange, kiwi fruit and lemons. Whatever you want to do, there’s a combination of fruit and veg that can help your body from the inside out.
After receiving a juicer for Christmas I’ve been experimenting with lots of different recipes, both from a book and based on what I have in the house. So far one of my favourites has been spinach, apple, carrot and lemon This cleansing juice is sweet and nutritious, rich in iron, vitamin C, pectin and beta-carotene. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the taste of a green juice but with such a mild vegetable like spinach you really can’t taste it. It’s all trial and error though; for me, while celery may be alkalizing and full of vitamins and minerals, the tangy taste really put me off!
