In Bulgaria there is one classic salad, the mother of all salads – the tomato & cucumber one. It has different names and different add-ons like onion, peppers, cheese, parsley. But the base is always the same – 2 or 3 tomatoes and one cucumber. If you, right now, enter a random bulgarian house at lunch or dinner time, you will see… guess what?! One classic salad :) What can I say, we are traditionalists.
As for me, I like the classics too. I grew up with these classics. I was 6 months old when I ate my first tomato and loved it (not that I remember)! But from time to time… the classics need a little twist, something unusual added to them, to spice up the meal. So, here is my variation of the traditional bulgarian salad:
