The Changing Face of Physical Training

Posted Sep 22 2008 5:37pm

I want to achieve Peak Physical and Mental Performance! I think we all want this and todays techniques for achieving top conditioning are much more refined then they were in the past.

As many of you know from reading this site my past history is one not unlike many of you.  I was active up to and throughout college followed by 10-12 years of very little activity.  I missed the way I used to feel and the sense of accomplishment I got from playing sports and working-out in the gym.  After years of saying I was going to do something about it, I finally did and learned so much about myself and these new techniques used by educated Exercise Physiologists.  Resveratrol has only been a small part of the puzzle, albeit a very important one in my mind. 2130298_blog

Well, times have changed!   Training today is different then it was 10 years ago.  Some say it's the same stuff presented differently, or that new techniques are just the newest fad, but I think today's upper echelon of trainers are on to something real. The combination of nutrition, supplementation, strength & endurance training has enabled athletes to become faster, stronger, and more mentally sharp then athletes of earlier eras.  Not all athletes take steroids!   You CAN get that "BIG" and that "FAST" without using illegal substances.

The Physical Part:  How are today's athletes able to naturally become superior to those of the past?

By focusing on specific movements relative to their sport.   For example: Baseball players, hockey players and golfers focus on the muscles that support a faster more explosive swing.  This is followed by training their core (the section of your body from your chest to the pelvis) to help support the explosiveness gained by focusing on muscles specific to their routine movement.  Resistance bands have become very popular to help give athletes better balance & stability, constant resistance, and safe explosive movements.

This is just one small example of how they achieve such powerful results.  There are numerous advanced methods used to maintain a superior fitness level.  The good news is this information isn't Top Secret.   There are many trainers who are using these techniques.  Find one in your area and give it a try.  I did, and it has changed my life!

I know what you're saying, "but I don't have the time or money to do this."   First off it only takes 3, 30 minute high intensity workouts per week.  Add in 3 more 30 minute sessions for some cardio and in an average of 30 minutes per day (50 mins with travel time) you can completely upgrade your body.  As for the cost, its really not that bad and many health insurance carriers will pay for all or portions of your training.  You can also use money in a health Savings Account to pay for this training tax free.  (Ask your health care or benefits provider for more information on how to do this)

Supplements & Nutrition:  Do it with natural vitamins and supplements along with a realistic diet.

Supplements work, period!  Any experienced Strength & Conditioning professional should have the ability to tell you what you need to take for your body type and specific goals.  Combined with a "realistic" diet, supplements will help your body work at its peak level and in turn you will get the most out of your physical workouts.

The Mental Part:  How do I get mentally healthy from working out?

This one is easy!  Removing work and family stress from the equation for a moment, many who are not healthy are constantly thinking about there health.  How many of you had these thoughts or something similar, I know I have;

"I really need to start eating better."  "Wow, climbing those steps have me winded."  "I can't believe playing with my daughter for 2 minutes got me so tired."

These thoughts occur often, in some cases they can occur several times throughout one day.  Just getting healthy relieves a third of your stress and makes it easier for you to deal with the other 2/3rds of work and family.

I don't believe I could have progressed so quickly had it not been for an educated personal trainer, dieting advice, supplement advice, and resveratrol.  I am proud of myself for actually "doing it" instead of just talking about it.  I am even more grateful for the support I receive every time I walk into the gym.  There are numerous training gyms out there.  Find one in your area, make an appointment, and get started changing your life.

Live Longer,

Markus
