The birth control pill

Posted Oct 21 2011 9:00am

Yesterday after I wrote my post on my running success secrets, Bill stopped and said, “Why didn’t you mention the birth control pill?”

Oops……yes I forgot to mention a big contributing (I think) factor in my new-found fitness and energy.

I got off the birth control pill.

I was on the birth control pill for the last 20 years and honestly was quite scared to get off of them.  Google “getting off of the pill” and you will read all kinds of horror stories:

  • acne
  • weight gain
  • irritability

Yes all from getting OFF of the pill.  Who would have thought?  I still was not convinced that birth control could be something good though.

My antiaging/holistic doc agreed .  Getting off of the pill was going to be better for me.  She encouraged me.  I thought about it.

Bill was a saint.  He went and got a vasectomy so I would not have to worry about getting pregnant.

All systems were a go.  I got off the pill.

And so I have been off of the pill for almost 2 months now and I feel like a new woman!

  • I have more energy
  • I have lost weight
  • I am running stronger and faster
  • My skin looks great
  • I am motivated to work out
  • My sugar cravings have decreased

I am convinced the birth control pill was not a good idea.  It bothers me to realize how many doctors prescribe the pill to woman and girls without any real words of caution.  If I would have known how terrible I was feeling on the pill, I would have gotten off long ago.  Though I understand for me-birth control and not getting pregnant was a huge issue.  I am thankful I have a loving, caring husband who took matters into his own hands so that I could feel this good.

What are your feelings about the Pill?

Happy Friday ;)
