The Annapolis Sailboat Show 2012

Posted Oct 07 2012 8:10pm

Hey y’all! I’m back from quite possibly the busiest weekend of my life! As you saw, Thursday we drove the 6 hours to Washington DC. I had never been to our nation’s capital and was excited to explore, but what brought us up that way was the Annapolis Boat Show . It is the oldest and largest new, in-water boat show in the world.

David and I have a bit of dreamer in us and couldn’t wait to explore the beautiful sailboats. We figured one day would be enough to see it all. HA! I knew we miscalculated when I saw dock after dock packed full of boats. There were easily 100, probably more. Knowing that we only had 1 day to fit as much in as possible, we strapped Hailey in the Ergo and went for it.

This weekend focused on sailboats. Before you think I’m fancypants, I’ve only been sailing once in my life. It was on a 39’ monohull on our honeymoon –

honeymoon shower

It was beautiful, but pretty cozy. Above is the “shower” which was a spray handle with zero water pressure that I showered with over the toilet.

Well, boy was I in for a surprise at what the boats we saw this weekend. Think condos– floating on water. Seriously, check out this shower! (Not over a toilet, may I add)

My favorite part are the kitchens (or galleys, as they’re called in sailor-speak).

Can you believe these beautiful kitchens are on boats?!

Some catamarans (two hull sailboats) are set up with four cabins, 2 in each hull, while others have an entire hull dedicated to being a master suite.

They’re my favorite Smile

OK, so the above master is cheating in comparison to the one above it since it’s in a monohull, which allows for a much wider room.

After a busy morning, we needed lunch. And a beer. And to strip Hailey down to a diaper for another layer on sunscreen (it was HOT).

We weren’t the only ones who needed a break and we enjoyed chatting it up with other friendly sailing enthusiasts, many from Montreal. Loved their accents!

Then, we were back at it.

It was incredible. After seeing all the boats we were most excited to see, we ended the day on 66’ catamaran called a Gunboat. I seriously felt like James Bond.

We lucked out ending the day here because we experienced a breathtaking sunset while hanging out on the trampoline over the ocean.

It was a perfect day. It has nothing to do with healthy living, but I wanted to share it with you anyways because, well, it was cool.

Are you a boat fan?

Could you ever see yourself living on a boat?
