Target Health and Wellness Club

Posted Feb 05 2012 8:12pm

I’m currently “watching” the superbowl. I put watching in quotes because I’m basically just down in the lounge to hangout with my friends. And I’ve kind of settled down in the corner on the floor, so I don’t really have a good view either. I love the e-trade baby commercials and apparently I missed a really good M & M one.

I want to say thanks to the positive feedback about my not so healthy confession post . I did not know how to go about discussing it on the blog. And that was also part of the reason I was gone so long. However, the messages I have received via facebook and twitter have been encouraging. I also realize I am not alone, which is nice.

To help keep my spirits up – I’ve been having a really good weekend. I’ve been busy catching up with good friends and attending a surprise party. I looove surprise parties. And he had no idea, which is always awesome. It was for my lab mates husband, and he is turning the big 3-0! Ahhh!

Even more exciting than surprise parties – Target and new products. Last week, I got the opportunity to head over to the Target studios in NYC to be introduced to some of their new health and wellness products. I was pretty pumped to be contacted by them. When I was at home my mom and made weekly Target trips and if we could make it out of the store spending less than $100 it was a miracle.

The first product station I visited was the pharmacy. I learned more than I expected to.

IMG 1686

Targets new pill bottles come with colored band, so each person in the family can pick their own color for all their prescriptions. The pharmacy is really great because the staff is very helpful and the $4 generic drug program is really worth mentioning.

They also have some new editions to their vitamin section. There is a gummy vitamin which is comparable to the One-a-Day Vitacraves adult chewables. I got a whole bottle to go home with, so I will have updated information on them soon.

I was also interested in their calcium citrate plus D supplement. I used to take a calcium pill because of my joint problems and I have always kind of wonder what the difference between calcium citrate and calcium carbonate was. Luckily the pharmacist I was speaking with had a answer for me. Apparently citrate is better for people with sensitive digestion systems (me!!). But the disadvantage is carbonate is one pill a day while citrate is 2-3 times a day. I guess I would rather have a calm tummy and take it the supplement in the more often.

Next, I was off of to the food! I have always found the quality of Target’s Archer Farms products to be pretty good.

So the first thing I was presented with was an edamame hummus. Yes, please!

IMG 1689

They call this Mukimame, which I guess is the name for shelled edamame? This was new to me. It tasted great – like a cross between guac and hummus almost. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the recipe and saw that it was made with greek yogurt.

I will type the recipe at the bottom of the post, but it is also conveniently printed right on the back of the package.

Other things that I popped out at me was the new line of nut butters. Hello mixed nut butter! It is just like the honey roasted one I have been enjoying. I’ve been really into making my own because usually it is cheaper. But do you see those Target prices? 6-8 dollars! That is a steal in nut butter world. I did not get to try those though…

IMG 1694

I also wanted to try these grilled cheese and tomato chips! Just the day before I had text Bryan that I was craving grilled cheese and tomato soup.

IMG 1696

Then it was off to the beauty section where I was greeted with a smoothie and a fabulous hand massage using this cream.

IMG 1703

They were featuring some products I love by Say Yes to Carrots , as well as a new one called Willa Naturals. It was started by an 8 year girl and her mom, and is exclusive to Target.

I was most interested in the new C9 Champion gear. I always pick up some pieces when I go home. The line is very affordable. I love that their pants come in lengths. I’m a shorty and I need the petite!

IMG 1706

I loved this tank and bra.

I could not find them on the website though. I may have to shoot the reps an email to figure out how I can purchase them online.

Finally, yoga moves with the one and only Bendigirl , Kristin McGee! The pants she is wearing is also from the C9 Champion line.

IMG 1262

She taught us some moves we can do at our desks and for our arms, hands, and wrists. Eagle arms was felt really nice. The wrist moves too. But that is too hard to describe in writing – there might be a vlog (video blo)g in my future.

I am slightly obsessed with these teal yoga mats from giam , and usually I like my mat sans patterns. But I look like 10 pictures of these.

IMG 1261Kristin was awesome, and I’m glad I got to meet her. I was familiar with her yoga dvd’s prior to the event.

Target also sent me home with goodies. I’m excited about the quinoa and the socks. I actually bought a pack of those socks when I was in Syracuse for Christmas.

Thanks to Target and Missy FarrenPR for inviting out. I definitely have some new items to add to my Target shopping list next time I go home.

What do you think about Target’s health and wellness products? Do you buy some of the store’s health and wellness products now? I have always loved the athletic wear including this t ank for yoga and this running skirt.

Have you seen any of these in your local Target yet?
