Swanson Vitamins: A Review

Posted Dec 09 2012 8:00am

Hello! Are you having a good weekend? I had an EXTREMELY productive day yesterday. Housework, laundry, vacuuming, health coach studying, 31 orders, online Christmas shopping, catching up on emails and MORE! Even included a little “real work.” I started about 8AM and finally ran out of steam about 4:30PM. It felt good to make such a dent in my to-do list. Some more to do this morning, then this afternoon is filled with FUN.

Don’t forget if you are in Knoxville that the KTC Leftover Run is today at 2PM. All proceeds go to a great charity and you get to choose t-shirts and prizes leftover from the year’s races.

The #HolidayADay Instagram Challenge for Saturday was #TREE. The first picture is the one I posted on Instagram, the second is the full tree. I love my Christmas tree and decorations – THANKS MOM!

Today’s theme is #LADIES DANCING. I am quite certain I will see a few ladies dancing with delight at the 31 Spring Product Premiere. Festivities starts at 2PM. I am quite excited about this. I will leave with the new catalog in my hands, as well as, a new product. Thirty-One knows how to throw an exciting meeting.

Recently I was given the opportunity to spend some money at Swanson Vitamins to see what they are all about. I had actually heard of them before but never thought about ordering anything. Let me show you what I got.

First up – CHIA SEEDS . I have heard so much about Chia Seeds, but could never find them locally (probably just don’t know where to look). This was a 12 oz package for $6.83. I did some online comparison and this exact product at a HUGE online retailer was double the price.

I tried the chia seeds in a smoothie earlier this week. I sought out advice on Twitter as to how best to use them. I was told to NOT put them in the blender, but to stir them in when the smoothie was done and poured. It was a little strange having a “crunch” in my smoothie, but I liked it. I was a little nervous about spilling the package everywhere as we know what a klutz I am. Luckily I only got the chia seeds in my smoothie. I am going to try some on my yogurt and granola today.

Here is a little about the product from the Swanson website:

Nutiva offers the superfood of the Aztecs, chia seed, in this 12 ounce package for a powerful boost of fiber, antioxidants, protein and omegas. Kosher and non-GMO, this naturally non-gluten seed can be added to your favorite juice, smoothies, baked goods or oatmeal.

Second – Calcium Soft Chews . Since I was told to order anything I wanted or needed, I decided I should be getting more calcium in my diet. This is a box of 75 chews for $6.93. Again did some comparison shopping and these were cheaper by a couple of bucks. These calcium chews are a great way to add extra calcium and vitamin D to your diet. They also taste amazing – love the fruit flavor.

Next up I wanted to try out one of their beauty products. Since I love lip balms, I decided to go with Organic Cocoa Butter Lip Balm Vanilla Bean . It seemed pricey at $4.25 but my comparison showed this was $4 cheaper than other retailers. I can say this isn’t my favorite lip balm ever. My guess would be that it feels (and smells) “weird” to me because it is organic and my other lip balms aren’t. It does make my lips feel good and that’s what counts.

The final product I selected was Acai Berry caplets . They are a completely new item to me. They were on sale when I bought them – 120 caplets for $3.99. Once again an amazing price when I did some comparisons. From the Swanson website about Acai Berry:

Swanson Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE ) comes from the fruit of a palm tree that grows in the Amazon rain forests of Brazil. Acai is so great because it’s bursting with antioxidants that protect your health and give you energy! In fact, it delivers more antioxidant power than both red grapes and red wine. Acai also provides a nearly perfect profile of amino acids, plus it contains important trace minerals too.

All in all I really enjoyed shopping at Swanson Vitamins. Shipping is only $4.99 per order. They seem to have quite a few specials each day and some of their items are Buy 1 Get 1 free. If you are like me and normally buy your vitamins at Target or even some other online retailers, I encourage you to check out Swanson Vitamins and give them a chance. I will be making a list as my vitamins run out and purchase them next time from Swanson.

What are you doing today? Do you take vitamins? Have you ever used Swanson Vitamins? How’s your Christmas shopping coming?

Note: I was given some money to spend at Swanson Vitamins on the products of my choosing. Opinions in this post are my own.
