A week or two ago (time really flies!), I ordered some Sunwarrior Brown Rice Protein from Gina’sOpenSky Shop . She was having a killer deal on this stuff and I think the total was around $30 with free shipping. $30 may seem like a lot, but there is actually quite a bit in the package.
I’ve had a few people ask me about it, so I thought this would be perfect timing to get a review up!
Let’s face it, protein powder has the potential to taste terrible. I’ve tried some in the past that were pretty gag-worthy! Is that a word?
Honestly, I’m not huge on protein powders. I would rather get my protein from natural food sources like eggs, grass-fed beef, wild fish, Greek Yogurt, and nut butters (of course).
However, there are times when too many of these foods can make me feel weighed down or lethargic or they simply just have no appeal (especially after a hard workout when I have trouble stomaching food).
Does that happen to anyone else?
That is where protein powder really helps me out.
Another reason that protein powder is beneficial is that it helps me get some quick, easy to digest protein in my body after a workout when I am short on time. A smoothie with milk, fruit, and protein powder is something that I can carry with me to help me refuel.
I think my diet gets plenty of protein without it, but it really does help in the above scenarios.
Why brown rice protein?
Whole grain brown rice is naturally high in many of the B Vitamins, including B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (niacin).
At 85% protein, Sunwarrior has the highest (non soy) raw (not heated over 90 degrees ) whole grain sprouted vegan protein on the market.
Naturally rich in vitamins and minerals, Sunwarrior Protein contains high amounts of antioxidants, tocopherols, and tocotrienols and other essential nutrients such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, phosphorous, iron and potassium.
Sunwarrior uses an old world process of combining the sprouted endosperm and the bran from raw sprouted whole grain brown rice. This unique process creates the first complete hypoallergenic protein which is made up of all 9 essential amino acids and other non-essential amino acids in a perfectly balanced amino acid profile.
Not only is it loaded with vitamins and minerals, it also takes great. How can that be bad?
I’ve actually never tried it straight up with water, but I have added it to smoothies, pancakes, and oatmeal. It is freaking delicious.
All of the other brown rice protein powders that I’ve tried in the past have been kind of tangy and chalky, which I am not a fan of. Sunwarrior has a nice, smooth flavor that I really enjoy.
Right now, I am LOVING this smoothie:
It’s thick, creamy, and loaded with nutrition.
It also tastes like what heaven should taste like…
