Good morning!
Hmmm – where do I begin? I’ve been training for the Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon since the end of January. The race is tomorrow. I’ve experienced some aches and pains associated with training, but I made it through all of my long runs without issue.
I even wrote about how running comes naturally to me .
However, the past few days have taken a turn. Maybe it was the strain and stress from moving on Sunday with countless trips up and down stairs carrying heavy things, but just after a short bike ride around my neighborhood yesterday, my knee felt very unstable, like it needed to pop. No severe pain, but more like a problem with the joint. I woke up this morning to some significant pain. The best way I can describe it is that it feels inflamed or sprained.
I’ve dealt with pain in both knees (and ankles) off and on for years, but this seems like an impending injury. I REALLY want to run this race tomorrow, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Because I also REALLY want to be able to run for a long time! Remember the post where Billy is chasing me with my walker ? (both dressed in purple…)

So where does that leave me? Well, besides in tears last night and all morning feeling sorry for myself, I am going to the Expo in an hour to pick up my race packet, and I’m planning to talk to a physical therapist there and get an opinion. I’m hoping for the best, but I know that ultimately it’s my decision to make. Do I follow my gut like painting our kitchen purple ? Or do I go for it anyway? I’m indecisive, remember ?

Let’s see here. Flowers make everything better. I took these photos yesterday. I told you it was spring here ! These beauties cause all sorts of seasonal allergies for me.

But I can’t stay away.

And some purple, of course.

Pansies always remind me of Alice in Wonderland . Anyone else? (Instant bond, if so.) That cartoon was made in 1951 – 60 years ago! Sort of amazing.

What’s your favorite animated movie?
I love Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
Have you ever backed out of a race last minute? OR, have you ever run a race and regretted it because of an impending injury that worsened?
We’ll know soon enough.
Do you like odd numbers or even numbers?
I go for evens. My bib #1684.
Big shout out to all the bloggers who ran the DC National Half this morning, including my friend Heather , who ran it in 1:41 xx, for a PR!
