Suck It Up

Posted Dec 04 2012 3:11pm

Well hello there my lovelies!!! I sure hope everyone out there is having a great day and if not, look on the bright side….we are halfway through it!! ;-)

Nothing overly exciting has been happening over here today unless you want to count the delicious salad I had for lunch today.

It looks pretty, too…don’t ya think?!

I threw some grapes, mini bell peppers, feta cheese and a veggie burger on top of some spring mix, topped it with a raspberry vinaigrette and inhaled it!! I am a little piggy and wanted to make a 2nd salad but I thought better of it. Only because I plan on having a yummy chocolate protein shake for snack here in a bit.

You know those days where the last thing you want to do is workout? Well, I was there this morning but I forced myself to do it. I didn’t wanna but I did and I must say, I felt 100% better when I was done.

My motto today:

Insanity Pure Cardio was my workout of choice and it hurt. I was cussing under my breath and I was drenched in sweat but I felt so accomplished when I was done. And now I can sneak a couple pieces of Dove Peppermint Bark Chocolate later and not feel the least bit guilty about it. Yep…..the workout was definitely worth it!! :-)

To Spoil or Not to Spoil?

After reading another blog yesterday, it got me to thinking about Christmas and how I choose to spend money on my kids.

I will be upfront, I don’t like to spend endless amounts of money on them anytime, much less Christmas. Sure I want the day to be special for them and I want them to be happy with what they receive but more than anything I just want them to be thankful and grateful that they receive anything at all.

I do think it is fun to spoil my kids to a certain extent at Christmas but only if I can afford it without putting it on a charge card. I will NEVER be okay with going into debt for toys and material items. It just isn’t going to happen up in this household!! In the words of one of our favorite books, Pinkalicious“You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!!!

As my kids are making their Christmas lists each year I let them know that just because they ask Santa for something does not mean they will get it. It also means they will not receive everything on their list. I explain that Santa has many kids he has to provide for and it would be selfish if they expected everything while some kids don’t get much at all. I realize some day they are going to ask me why so and so got a $500 gift and they didn’t but for now, they seem to be happy with the explanation I give them.

My hope is that as my children grow older they will continue to see that they live a blessed life and it has nothing to do with the gifts they receive but the love and lessons that we are trying to teach them!! I’m not saying it is easy and I don’t always do my best at practicing exactly what I preach but I am trying!!

How do you motivate yourself to workout when you don’t want to?

Do you believe in spending a lot at Christmas or do you try to be mindful of what you spend?
