spoonful of frigid…i survived the tough mudder part 1

i am not sure i have ever been that frozen in my entire life and if you speak to any of the other utah tough mudders they would probably agree! if it hadn’t have been for my husband, i wouldn’t have crossed the finish line and probably would have been carted off to the medical tent. so let’s start with the beginning…
the prep: night before the hair came off! carson doesn’t have a ton of hair so we did our best:)
we woke up at about 4:50 am and headed out. we arrived just in time to register, get our numbers, and get a taste of the cold!!! we headed back to the car to heat up before we had to start and put the finishing touches on our appearance!
mustaches were glued on and prayers were said…
we decided to call ourselves “Mohawks, Mustaches, and a Madame” pretty clever i’d say! so with the mohawks (kinda hard to see them in this pic but my father in law is the man for having such a sweet hawk!), plus the mustaches , and i rocked the red lips, bow, and eyelashes! we were sad to be down a member the morning of all thanks to the flu and one member almost didn’t make it in time! so we settled for a team pic of just us 4!
so crazy how clean and happy we are in this pic! ha! i can’t wait to see the pics from the event and put them side by side because little did we know what was in store.
the stared events are the “must see” for the spectators or as i would call them, the most painful! we knew we were in for a treat when we came upon those. i think what i was most nervous for was the cold. it was around 40 degrees outside and i knew that my body was not going to handle the cold well. i had been training with crossfit but i hadn’t run more than 5 miles consecutively and suddenly i was looking at 12. i was hoping that the obstacles would break up the running so that it wouldn’t be so bad, but once seeing the course i realized i was in for it! i didn’t even plan very well for nutrition that morning. were in such a hurry out the door that we had cliff bars and a banana. maybe not the smartest idea considering we had a tough event ahead of us but lesson learned right?
our 5th team member made it just in time so we were in the back of the pack for the 8:00 start time! take a look at how many people we started with! the guys in the red totally smoked everyone! i always saw these red shirts way ahead of all of us!
i can’t wait to see pics from the event! so stay tuned for part 2 and all the dirty drama!
have you ever been under trained or terrified for a race or event?
