Soul Space

Posted Jan 26 2013 9:39am

Every morning, I make time for what I like to call “Soul Space.” As I’m lying in bed, before I even open my eyes, I repeat the prayer from A Course in Miracles: “Where would you have me go? What would you have me do? What would you have me say? And to whom?” I breathe in and out deeply and feel the words penetrate throughout my body. It’s a call to the Universe to lead me to choose love in everything I do for the day. It is the ultimate mind cleanse.

Sometimes, though, I don’t want to make time for “Soul Space.” This morning was one of those mornings. My ego was like, “Girl, turn that alarm clock back later. Sleep in. You don’t need this time to go inward. You’ve got it all figured out.” The thing is though, I never have it all figured out until I open up space for guidance and welcome the recalibration .

I had to be at work for 7:00 a.m., so a 5:45 a.m. wake-up call was on the horizon. After spending time with friends last night, I didn’t get to bed until 1:00 a.m. If you know me, you know I’m a straight-up early riser. I love going to bed early and I love waking up early. Morning is my favorite time of day. I love the promise it brings and the new possibility that comes with it – the uncertainty that lies ahead makes me so stoked to tackle the day.

So, why would I want to sabotage my love for the mornings? Why would I want to skip yoga and meditation – two things that I genuinely love and look forward to each morning, both of which help me to be the best person I can for others and for myself?

After my initial thought of staying in bed, I came back to the moment and repeated my prayer from the Course. “Where would you have me go? What would you have me do? What would you have me say? And to whom?” A honest, soft whisper said, “It’s time to get going, girl.”

I peeled myself out of bed, got my yoga on for 5 minutes, meditated for a few minutes, and headed off to work. I felt invigorated and recalibrated. I felt grateful for listening to my inner guide and trusting in the guidance I needed from Universe to move forward with the day.

As I was driving, the sun was coming up over the horizon and I was listening to Marianne Williamson’s new book, The Divine Law of Compensation, on audio. She said, “Our purpose is to listen to our calling.”

That calling is the honest, soft whisper from our inner guide. When we listen to the calling from our inner guide, we are naturally led by the Universe to every situation and encounter that we’re meant to be guided to.

That calling can come in many forms – there are no limits to which the calling comes from -  but we can’t listen to the calling without first listening to our inner guide. We gotta make time for Soul Space. So, whatever it is that makes you feel infinitely at peace and at home in your body that is a container for love … do that every day. Make space for your soul. Make time for Soul Space.

Stay lovely,
Heather
