It’s a little know fact that I have a small obsession with the popular daytime drama General Hospital . I religiously DVR it every night on SOAPNet at 10pm.
After 3 weeks in Spain with no television or internet at home, I was excited to catch up on the 2 month backlog of General Hospital… until I turned on the cable box and discovered it somehow stopped taping as of early December. FAIL… or so I thought. It turns out, there are some fans crazier than I that actually record each episode and post them on You Tube, so I’ve been able to start catching up via my laptop.
On my run today (yes, I finally felt good enough to run this afternoon!), it occurred to me that I literally haven’t turned on my television for probably over a week now (except to watch 15 minutes of Tom Brady showing Tim Tebow a thing or two on Saturday…)
Amazing. Thank you for sharing this, Christen Uttley!
That, and I’m paying more than ever to not watch television after yet another increase in my bill. After looking at my budget for 2013 and considering the insane costs of planning a wedding, I decided today that I’m totally capable of living without cable television, thanks to a little soap opera viewing on YouTube! One 5-minute phone call to Time Warner later and I’m now saving over $65 a month – a whopping $780 if I stick it out for the rest of the year until Rob and I move to San Francisco! I mean, that’s almost the price of a wedding dress. Almost.
On an average day I keep perfectly busy with blogging, studying, going to class, exercising, working and socializing with friends so I have no doubt I’ll be able to adapt to watching my beloved General Hospital on YouTube. I guess I’ll just be going out to watch the Super Bowl this year!
Have you cut out any unnecessary expenses from your budget lately? I’d love to hear what, and how!
