Smooooooothies and a Contest!

Posted Oct 01 2012 1:26pm

If you’ve stuck around here for awhile (thanks Mom!) you know that smoothies are my jam. I drink them year round, which works out much better for me in California than it did in New York. Even then, in the middle of winter I would put on layers and wrap myself in blankets just to be able to drink my smoothies. So worth it.

When Designer Whey contacted me and asked if I would be a judge in their Mystery Color Shakedown Recipe Contest, I was super excited. I’ve been cleaning up my diet since the move and trying to increase my protein intake, and protein smoothies are a great way to take something I already love and bump up the nutrition. I’ve been pretty picky about my protein powders in the past and hated the chalky taste of most that I tried. So far, I’m loving that Designer Whey uses no artificial sweeteners and doesn’t taste chalky.

Here’s some more details as well as a video that explains the rules of the contest – basically submit your recipes every week for a chance to win super great prizes – Designer Whey products, Dr. Melina’s newest book, even a blender!

To get you started, here’s one of my recent favorites:

Chocolate Pineapple Protein Punch

1 cup chocolate soy milk (I used Trader Joe’s Extra, which has extra protein)

1 cup frozen mixed berries

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1 banana, frozen

1 scoop Designer Whey Chocolate protein powder

Add ingredients to blender, blend until smooth. I served mine with a spoonful of almond butter on top.

*Full disclosure – Designer Whey sent me a box full of protein powders and samples, but all opinions are my own!
