Yesterday was the baby shower at Maggiano’s. Looking back, I honestly cannot believe how concerned I was over this event. The great thing about Weight Watchers is that you can plan ahead and you have the flexibility of the bonus and exercise points. Knowing that I had the shower on Saturday, I did not use any of my 35 bonus points or the fitness points that I had accrued. Saving that much wasn’t even necessary in the end.
The shower started with appetizers of stuffed mushrooms and calamari buffet style. When we arrived, I was not really hungry yet because I had eaten that Fiberful Fruit Bar, so I skipped the appetizers. The picture shown here was my friend Colleen’s plate.
The first course was served family style, which is typical of Maggiano’s. We had freshly baked breads, antipasti salad, and chopped walnut and apple salad. I had a small serving of each type of salad, working around the meat in the antipasti salad. I preferred the apple and walnut salad out of the two, it was quite tasty. I also had a small slice of bread with some butter.
The last picture is my plate. I had two of the four cheese raviolis with one last slice of bread and butter. These were satisfying and the pesto/alfredo sauce was a unique twist. As mentioned in earlier posts, I haven’t been eating chicken lately, and if I’ve never mentioned this before, I do not eat fish. Out of the two pasta choices, the raviolis appealed more to me and were filling enough that I did not need to have any of the ziti pomodoro.
Up to this point I had been very proud of my choices. I sampled a bit of each salad and watched the portion sizes that I served myself with both the salads and the raviolis. In the past, I most likely would have eaten the whole basket of bread-literally, so two small pieces is a big accomplishment for me.
Up next came the dessert. Honestly, I was full. This is where I became a bit disappointed with myself afterwards. I really was not hungry, but it just LOOKED so good so I served myself a small piece of Tiramisu.
I used to LOVE Tiramisu several years ago. The first time I went to Italy in 2005 I made it my job to sample the Tiramisu in every restaurant we went to. Yea sadly that is a true story. I ate so much of it that when we returned to the states I could not even look at it! That held true up until yesterday. It was good but I feel I ate it just because it was there.
Overall, I panicked over this event for nothing. If I am going to continue on this healthy lifestyle path, I need to accept that events are going to come up. I have a HUGE family and there is always a wedding, shower, communion, birthday, etc with tons of food. Making smart choices, planning ahead, and using portion control are the ways to get through these events successfully. It’s still a learning experience but so far, so good!
