Sleep deprivation increases Food Intake

Posted Apr 19 2010 12:18pm
From the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
Intro:
The objective was to see if sleep deprivation in healthy young men effected energy and physical activity. Twelve men (ages 18-25) completed a study over two days that forced them to sleep for 8 hours or 4 hours during a night.

Conclusions:
One night of reduced sleep subsequently increased calories eaten and, to a lesser extent, calories burned in healthy young men. These experimental results, if confirmed by long-term energy balance measurements, suggest that sleep restriction could be a factor that promotes obesity.
