Skin Science Bio Active

Posted Mar 27 2011 12:03pm
A little while a go I was contacted by a firm representing various high end luxury face and body products and have been testing and trying to review for my blog. The latest products I have been using are from Skin Science .

Here's a bit of info about the brand
"Skin Science is a new skincare brand from Norway proven to delay skin ageing by 20%.

At Skin Science, it is our belief that Nature has bestowed on us some incredibly powerful gifts – not least the ability to survive that has been adapted, developed and perfected over billions of years.
We look to the intelligence of Nature to find successful skin therapies and, using our own advances in science and research, we push the boundaries of what is naturally possible and take the efficacy of our ingredients to a higher level than has ever been achieved.
Our expertise at Skin Science is in discovering the most potent and dynamic ingredients that will allow the skin to function at its best."

I have tried two products from the range, the first being the Bio Active Instant Replenishment Complex

Proven to delay skin ageing by 20%Nature’s most powerful antioxidantUp to 30 times more powerful than
Vitamin EDelays skin ageing by 20%
"Apply half an ampoule morning and evening over a week for a full boost of the elasticity of your face, neck and décolleté areas.

Or apply one third of an ampoule after cleansing or exfoliation two to three times a week.

Spermine™

The skin requires protection from free radical activity in the form of antioxidants. Skin Science uses Spermine™, the most powerful antioxidant made by nature, to do this. Spermine™ is proven to delay skin ageing by 20%. The antioxidant effect of Spermine™ is 25 to 30 times stronger than Vitamin E.

Vitamin E

A naturally occurring antioxidant, effectively absorbed by the skin. Vitamin E smoothes and helps heal dry skin conditions, sunburn, and scar tissue.

Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Essential for the normal function of the epidermis that improves hydration and reduces itching and inflammation of the skin. Vitamin B5 also maintains skin softness and elasticity.

Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)

Has an anti-radical effect and can suppress the oxidation and the ageing of skin lipids, thereby preserving the strength and structure of the skin, it also helps to suppress the pigmentation of the skin, diminishing the appearance of brown spots and age spots. Vitamin C is an essential vitamin for the synthesis of collagen."

I won't beat about the bush - this product is expensive and most certainly a 'considered' purchase! I was really hoping to be wowed by it due to it's high price tag and was actually pretty excited to start using it.

The product consists of a weeks worth of treatment in the form of small bottles designed to be used each day - half the bottle in the morning and the second half in the evening. I actually found using a whole per day to be too much so I only used what I need and managed to make the treatment last two weeks.

The packaging is simple and the little vials looked quite scientific and potent! The product had a bit of an odd smell - a bit like chlorine and old socks, but that's probably the only negative.

The texture of the product is similar to a serum, feels rather oil based but absorbs quickly and my skin felt very comfortable. I thought I would feel a tingle or even a stinging due to the ingredient rich content but there was no discomfort what so ever.

After the first use, I noticed by skin was a lot more matte by the end of the day which I was really pleased with.

By the end of the two weeks my skin felt a bit tighter and certainly less oily on my cheeks and chin - my forehead though improved was still a bit too oily for my liking! My skin felt softer, especially on my neck and the skin tone seemed improved. I noticed an increase in plumpness and my skin seemed more radiant - I got rosy cheeks! I was also able to get away with using less make up which was a real bonus. I noticed all these positives in a short space of time too.

As the product is recommended for use after chemical peels, I made sure I exfoilated regularly during the two weeks to get the full benefit.

I really enjoyed using this, and felt like my skin was getting a good hit of goodies and has looked better than before I used it. But I do think the price is going to put a lot of people off, it's £120 which for a week (or if you can stretch it to two weeks like me) would certainly be a 'treat' product or something for a very special occasion. I think in the run up to a holiday or wedding when you really want your skin to look boosted then products like this come in to play, but as a day to day or month to month addition to one's skincare regime it may be over priced for the majority of people - including me!

It can be bought from Harvey Nichols .

And the second Skin Science product I have been using is the Bio Active Stimulating Serum

The world’s first non-invasive organic exfoliantDelays the signs of skin ageing by 20%World’s first non-invasive resurfacerLeaves skin 100% intact "Spermine™

Zonase X™

Zonase X™ is the world’s first organic, non-invasive and non-allergenic exfoliant. It is the only enzyme that can enhance a gentle exfoliation of human skin, leaving the tissue beneath totally unharmed and without risk of inflammation.

Soy Extract

Contains substances called isoflavones that possess both antioxidant and estrogen-like effects, they help reduce the appearance of lines and increases the tone and hydration of the skin. Isoflavones possesses a collagen-stimulating effect that helps improve skin thickness and elasticity of the skin.

Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)

One of the most easily absorbed vegetable oils available today, it mimics the lipid content of the skin to help keep the structure of the epidermis unharmed and prevent surface damage and irritation. Jojoba oil also helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other lines associated with ageing by supporting the natural healing process and the growth of new skin cells."

I started using this as a follow on to the the Bio Active Instant Replenishment Complex so I could continue using products of similar ingredients and benefits.

This feels very comfortable on the skin - light and not greasy or heavy. It absorbs well and leaves me skin feeling smooth and moisturised and looking healthy and with a lovely glow. My skin also felt tighter but not in a dry way. The texture is a lot thicker than the Instant Replenishment Complex and definitely more serum-like.

I've been using this for about 2-3 weeks now and the bottle is still going strong. I use two pumps two times a day to cover my entire face and neck and I've found it suitable as both a day and night cream.

Again, this product comes with a hefty price tag, £95, and again would probably be out of reach for a lot of people. I certainly can't see myself ever spending so much on a face product, even one that I do like!

This too can be bought from Harvey Nichols .

Would you be willing to spend a bit more for a luxury face product? Or are your facial product faves on the cheaper side?
