Six Mile Sunday

Hey everyone,

I had a good run today! Though we had a rainy morning, the skies cleared up and it turned into a nice day! So I did a nice run through the nearby neighborhoods. I've discovered several where the roads aren't busy at all, and there is only sidewalk one side of the street. There aren't many cars parked along the street, so I'm able to run on the pavement (the left side of the street!) safely with a clear view ahead of me. I ran 6.24 miles without any major problems, which is the longest I've run in a while because of the knee issues.

I'm crossing my fingers for my first 10k race next weekend! It will be my longest race so far. I've just run 5k's and one 4.2 mile race before. I'm gonna try and take it slow and steady. I would like to finish under 60 minutes, but I'll just see how it goes. I definitely took this run steady today. I ran the 6.24 in 1:01:54.

My mile splits were:
Mile 1: 10:08
Mile 2: 10:08
Mile 3: 10:13
Mile 4: 9:35
Mile 5: 9:40
Mile 6: 9:39

And my total mile average was 9:55. I'm pretty happy with that-- I was concentrating on distance, not speed.

Oh, and I tried a new fruit today in honor of the New Foods Challenge! I saw it at the grocery store, and it looked really cool. It's called a kiwano, or a "horned melon." And it definitely has horns--sharp ones! If you get one, be careful when handling it.

I researched it, and and saw that you cut it in half and eat the flesh. The seeds are edible.

It was pretty good. I thought it kind of tasted like a kiwi, but people online say that they think the flavor resembles a mix of cucumber and zucchini. The flavor is pretty mild, too. I thought it was cool to try, but didn't like it enough to buy it again. I'm glad I tried it, though!

My dinner consisted of a salad and a Whole Foods brand Yellowfin tuna burger:

The salad was my usual mix.

The tuna burger included:
Whole Foods tuna patty
Annie's ketchup and mustard
Onion sprouts
Aunt Millie's light whole wheat bread

I also had one of my "weird" desserts. Brace yourselves...

It's Libby's canned pumpkin mixed with cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, warmed just a little in the microwave. I topped it with Fat Free Reddiwhip, an extra dash of cinnamon, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, and Easter sprinkles.

Hey, I told you I like pumpkin ;) And I think it's good-- it's like pumpkin pie, without the crust.

Q: What are some of your must-have foods?

I think it's obvious that mine would be pumpkin! Oats, salad, and greek yogurt also top the list. Eggplant is pretty high up there, too. What about you?
