Simple Guilt-Free “Fizz Fix” {Healthy & Hydrating}

Posted Dec 22 2012 11:30pm

I have been doing my darndest to avoid soda.  I’m not saying I don’t eventually give in to the allure that IS Diet Coke; but for the most part, I am beginning to wean this out of my diet.  It’s for the best.

I know from experience that all of the unnatural add-ins in soda hinders athletic performance.  I know that ANY day I drink soda, my workout is subpar.  Every. Single. Time.

Obviously, this doesn’t just go for athletes.  We all know that soda is just not healthy, however you slice it.  {Not that we’re slicing soda; just stick with me here}  We cannot disregard the utter importance of proper hydration.

Athletes demand more of their bodies, and consequently need to keep an eye on their physical condition, including their level of hydration. During hot and humid conditions, staying well-hydrated is vital to prevent heat-related illnesses. Drinking soda presents a problem for athletes, as it may increase their risk of dehydration. Other beverages, such as water, hydrate the body more effectively and don’t present any of the health hazards associated with soda and other sugary drinks.

But, sometimes you just need that “fizz.”

Let me introduce you to my newly discovered “fizz fix” – SELTZER.

Seltzer is simply pure carbonated water.  With this in mind, it is essentially just as nutritious.  It is simply bubbly; and if you’re like me, you LOVE THE BUBBLES.

Not all seltzers are created equal.  Be sure to read your nutrition labels–this SHOULD be calorie free.  Also, take a quick glance at the ingredients; it should ONLY display pure carbonated water.

Another great thing about seltzer–it helps me stay full between meals.  It’s hydrating, bubbly, and filling. I’m all about this.
