I am scheduled for Strabismic Amblyopic surgery in two weeks but im having second thoughts. I am a 25 yr. old teacher and it is effecting me at work. It is more of a cosmetic issue then visual because i know i wont get much visual improvement from the surgery. I feel if i have ths surgery and it goes really well my life will change so much. What should i do?
To have any surgery is a major decision – an eye-surgery so much more so. First, you could go for a second opinion and an answer to: what and how great is the risk of something going wrong. It is important that you, within yourself are sure, that you want to do it and that it is necessary. If improvement, mostly cosmetic, outweighs the risk – impairing your vision, then the answer is obvious. Perhaps, instead of a surgery you need to accept yourself as you are. People, who go through immense makeovers, often haven't made the inner change, perception of themselves, so nothing changes at the cost of risks, pain and expense. I hope this helps.
I definitely understand about accepting myself the way i am. Its just a huge communication issue because i cant look anyone in the eye because of my condition. I was pretty popular in school, i never had much of a problem gettting girls, i played college football and all, but its just more of a communication issue most of all. I feel like I will be to communicate much better. I should of have explained more.
