She’s got it. Yeah baby she’s got it!
The plague. Ick.
I knew it was only a matter of time that I got what everyone else had (I had it already once in January) and as luck would have it, I did. It started on Tuesday with a scratchy throat and cough, and developed over night last night into fever, body ache, chills and an awful sore throat. Booooo.
Yesterday I skipped my workout because my body felt too tired to get out of bed. That’s when I knew something was up. With my sore throat, nothing sounded better than tomato soup and a grilled cheese so I looked up a recipe and decided to make a tomato bisque on my own.
My Aunt Jean got me this amazing Dutch Oven for Christmas and I promised her when I used it for the first time I would give her a shout out!! So this post is dedicated to her!
Isn’t it pretty?
The soup looked and smelled really good. It had lots of basil, crushed tomatoes, and should of had fat free half & half but instead I used milk. This where I think I went wrong – but more on that later.
It was kind of an involved process and I’m not going to share the recipe until I’ve perfected it. The soup was just okay. I didn’t puree it long enough, and I should have used heavy cream. But my waist line told me no, so this is what I got. I think the highlight of my night was when David found the recipe and said “This is HEALTHY!” Hahaha I’d been caught! Oops!!
I paired the soup with a grilled cheese.
There’s no better way to eat it.
I am a little bummed it didn’t turn out like I’d envisioned it but – better luck next time.
Back to the plague. I thought for sure I wasn’t going to work today but instead I rolled myself out of bed and got in the shower. After sweating with fever all night I felt icky and just wanted to feel refreshed. I decided to just suck it up – and go to work. I hate calling in sick – because then I just sit at home and sulk and think about how bad I feel. Usually it helps to be up around moving, if you can be. Plus, I want to conserve my time off for days when maybe there’s absolutely no way I can go into work. You know?
Anyway, I’m disappointed that I had big workout plans for the week and had to take the last few days off. But, I’ve learned that forcing yourself to workout when your sick is the worst idea possible. My body needs any extra energy it has to fight this thing off – not sweating in the gym. I’ve been popping “Cold Eeze” all day and I swear it’s working. I’m already feeling back to life. Yay me!
More rest is in store for tonight, some American Idol and hopefully a trip to the gym in the morning. We’ll see!
