Ok, I hesitated to write about this here. I thought it might be a little too risque for the blog. But we bill ourselves as giving real talk on black women's health issues and for me this falls under that category and needs to be discussed.
Actress Stacey Dash (who I must admit has been looking fabulous at 40+) recently did an interview on the Jamie Foxx radio show in which she acknowledged that she had slept with all three of her husbands (she is currently in the midst of a divorce from husband #3) on the 1st date. She also talks about how each of the husbands essentially asked her to marry them not soon after and she said yes. Her longest marriage lasted 2 years.
This got me to thinking. Do you think that sleeping with a man on the first date diminished the chances of you having a serious, committed relationship? And does sleeping with someone too early on in a relationship cause feelings of lust to be mistaken for love? I don't know the answer. I'm just asking the question. I have a friend who met and married her husband on the same day. NO - you did not read that wrong. They recently celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary, but obviously this is in the very, very, small minority.
In today's modern day relationships, people are definitely having sex earlier and earlier on, but when is too early? With the percentages so out of whack of available black men to available black women, do you feel pressure to put out early in fear that he will simply move on to the next woman?
I know there are a lot of you out there on the dating scene and I would be interested to hear what you think. Do you think that Stacey Dash sleeping with all three of her husbands on the first date contributed to her now being a three time divorcee'?
Listen to the radio interview here. *Warning this is done on satellite radio and some of the language used may not be appropriate for small children or work settings so use your headphones. :-)
