I’m about 6 weeks into marathon training – so I’m spending a LOT of time running these days. I like to switch up between 2-3 pairs so I spread the mileage around a bit.
Recently I was selected by the amazing Fitfluential people that I was selected to be part of a campaign to review the new Mizuno Wave Sayonaras . Um, review a pair of running shoes from my go-to shoe company? Deal.
They arrived about an hour before I left for NYC for the weekend, so obviously I had to bring them along and thus broke what might be one of the most commonly accepted rules of running: I wore a brand new pair of shoes for the first time on a 10 mile run. The day after a pretty intense track workout.
Clearly I know better. But patience is not one of my strong suits. I woke up early Saturday morning, laced up and headed to Central Park.
First impression: I LOVE THESE SHOES. They are lightweight but stable, and I didn’t think about them once on my 10 miles – the mark of a great shoe. They did seem a bit narrower than my other Mizunos, but other than that I had no complaints.
Then I took two days off because my left calf was not happy. And then I ran 3 miles and I felt my tight calf with every step. And then I took two more days off. And then I ran 6 miles in my old Mizunos and felt great.
The verdict: it seems like these will be my go to shoes for short distances, track workouts and cross training and for me, not the best long distance shoe. Either way, they are still incredibly light and comfortable and I am still a huge Mizuno fan.
Special thanks to Fitfluential and Mizuno for the shoes – but all opinions are as always my own.
