Who doesn’t love a summer road trip? One of the best things about Washington state is that it offers a full range of landscapes all within a three-hour (or less) drive. You can venture to the ocean, a lake, the mountain, the rainforest, the desert, the islands.. even Canada ay’! Despite the crummy weather in Western Washington 10 months out of the year, it is actually a pretty bitchin’ place to live if you dig adventures.
On a mission to find some hot summer sun (and escape a balmy 68 degrees on the western side of Washington), we took a drive to the canyons of Lake Chelan, Washington . It was only a day trip so we didn’t do a whole lot while we were there, but it was fun to walk around town. Lake Chelan has a really neat Riverfront Walk connected by two bridges so you can walk on either side of the water. It was a ton of fun to hang out, take pictures, and soak up some rays! If only we had a boat…
On the way home from Lake Chelan, we stopped in at Leavenworth, WA . Leavenworth is an adorable Bavarian town nestled in the mountain foothills. I have been going to Leavenworth my whole life, so I know the town pretty well. It is one of those vacation stops that always feels like a second home.
While in Leavenworth we stopped by the Tumwater Inn and had an authentic German dinner with the extra calories to match. The restaurant has an unbeatable dive bar quality that we love!
The Fireman had a Blue Moon and I had a Big Al’s Amber… It hit the spot.
For dinner The Fireman had German sausage, bratwurst and a potato cake.
In rare form, I had Beef Stroganoff.
It was definitely not a “healthy” meal, but sometimes you have to say heck with it and live in the moment. Reality will always be there waiting for you.
