Last week , I was sent a few products by Rudi’s Organic Bakery to sample and review. I am currently working through my stash, but I have already finished the Spelt Ancient Grain . It is THAT GOOD.
Think of it as having a spelt personality. The combination of spelt with by sesame, sunflower and flax seeds, makes it one of our most wholesome breads but it’s still plenty nutty. You’ll enjoy it toasted or just idly hugging your favorite sandwich.
Made with stuff you can pronounce and ingredients you recognize
Organic spelt flour, water, organic evaporated cane juice, organic quinoa flour, organic sesame seeds, organic millet, organic flax seed, organic kamut flour, organic amaranth flour, organic sunflower seeds, organic potato flour, organic high oleic sunflower and/or safflower oil, sea salt, organic molasses, organic oat flour, cultured spelt flour, yeast, vinegar, ascorbic acid, natural enzymes. CONTAINS: WHEAT, SESAME SEEDS, SUNFLOWER SEEDS AND FLAX SEEDS
One of the first things I do when I buy a product is look at the ingredients. There are many ingredients out there I am not comfortable eating, but Rudi’s uses organic, wholesome ingredients that produce a stellar nutritional profile. Nowadays, companies add cheap fillers, such as soy lecithin or soybean oil to their breads to try and save money. However, there was nothing in this bread that is even remotely questionable (as with all of Rudi’s products).
I also loved the values that drive Rudi’s everyday:
- Live INSPIRED, bringing passion and commitment to the job and to each other
- Through our products and our actions, ENCOURAGE healthy and happy lifestyles
- CARE for each other, our families, our community, and our world
- Take ownership in the GROWTH of our business and ourselves, committing to quality in all we do
- RESPECT each other and our unique diversity, finding win-win solutions
- Be POSITIVE and have FUN, making Rudi’s a place where people want to come to work
Once a product meets my standards on quality and ingredients, it has to taste good for me to purchase it again. The Spelt Ancient Grain Bread was seedy and chewy, which I always look for in bread. It reminded me a lot of Whole Foods Seeduction Bread, which is one of my all time favorite breads ever made. The nutty flavors provided a great vessel for anything from a PB&J to a hearty sandwich. I think my favorite use for it was to make a sandwich with one of my homemade veggie burgers . It was firm and dense enough to stand up to a multitude of fillings.
I won’t go as far to say this was the best bread I have ever had, but it is the best pre-packaged bread I have ever had. I usually buy my sandwich bread from the Whole Foods bakery because it was baked fresh that morning, but this stuff was GOOD. I am sad it is gone
Hey Rudi , how about sending me some more?
Have you ever tried Rudi’s bread? What did you think?
If not, what is your favorite prepackaged bread that you buy at the grocery store?
