Review: Jillian Michaels 6 Week 6 Pack

Posted Jan 09 2011 12:00am

hanks for all the lovely comments on my San Fran / Sonoma/Napa trip .  If you have any questions about the vineyards or restaurants I went to, send me and email and I will be happy to share.

It’s  been so nice being home for the weekend.  I’ve seen friends and had plenty of time to laze around and indulge my rapidly growing obsession with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Friday night, I had a lovely dinner with Bo and Ashley at Bell, Book and Candle .  It’s an interesting place.  The restaurant grows food on a rooftop garden that is used in the dishes, obviously the garden is closed in the winter however!  I would say that the appetizers and great wine stole the show for us!

Pre-dinner the we got a mani at QQ Nail, which was recommended by Sara .  We knew we could trust her recommendation because she was there when we arrived! Great nail salon!

All righty, on to a review of the Jillian Michaels 6 Week Six-Pack .   image

If you haven’t read Meghann’s review , it’s a good one!

I have now tried Level One and Level Two.

The video is a lot more cardio/full body than I expected. This makes sense because you really need to burn calories to start decreasing fat as you build muscle.

If you have done the 30 Day Shred, it is similar in the type of moves that combine upper and lower body, but it is not quite as intense.  I think this is mainly because you aren’t switching gears as muchthe workout flows.  You do get the beloved Michael’s line about gargling your heartclassic.

You warm up with some jogging, burpees, lunges and a few other things before heading through a 15 minute circuit of standing and floor workout, which you repeat twicefaster the second time.  The whole workout is about 37 minutes.

The workout consists of a lot of standing ab work with the occasional use of a single hand weight.  Squats, lunges, planks, and ab twists all get a new spin to make them focus on the core.

Everyone once in a while you drop to the floor to do straight arm planks while twisting you knee under your body or touching your knee to your elboweven while doing a push up!!!

There are a few more standard ab movesdouble crunches and bicycles.

I like that the mountain climbers and burpees help you get your cardio in, so it’s really a fairly complete workout.

Level 2 was a bit harder than Level 1, but not drastically so.   Basically, there are a few moves that require more strength and coordination and a bit more cardio.  There are also fewer beginner modifications.

Overall, I think it is a pretty good workout.  It’s challenging and it gets your heart rate up. I don’t necessarily feel the burn in my abs today.   The one caution, as with all home videos, is that you have to really focus on your form otherwise you can go through the motions without really working your abs.  Since there are a lot of lunges and squats where it’s easy to use your legs more than your abs.

Will I do this 5 times a week, probably not.  Do I feel like it’s a good work out when I don’t have time to run to the gym?  Definitely.

One thing I completely forgot to share about my San Fran trip was our visit to where the Full House opening was shot. The charming Painted Lady Houses in Alamo Square: cali 262

Full House Trivia:

What was the tanner’s dog’s name?

What did Stephanie want to change her name to after being called Step on Me?

How do you keep your uniform clean when sliding in baseball?

Have a great weekend!
