Last weekend, I was literally jumping with excitement when I saw a box from Soda Stream arrive on my doorstep. They sent me one of their Pure machines to review for you guys, since Casey and I are such a huge sparkling water drinkers.
Ever since I gave up artificial sweeteners a few months ago (post on that to come soon, I promise), I have had a really hard time finding good things to drink. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I just really don't like plain water. I find it very boring and hard to choke down. But I also know that I need to be paying better attention to hydrating, so I'm trying to find good alternatives. I've found that I really like sparkling water and club soda, so our pantry and refrigerator are forever stocked with 2-liter bottles. But that adds up over time, in both price and packaging - two things we are working on reducing here in our house.
Enter the geniuses over at Soda Stream , who created an at home carbonating machine, so that you can make your own plain or flavored sparkling waters, or even soda! Check out all the awesome products my machine came with!
In addition to the Pure machine, I received eight different soda mixers! Too bad I quit drinking soda :( But these will be good to have on hand when we have guests or parties (haha, like we would ever have a party!).
They also sent three flavor essences - now these I am excited about! Now I can make sparkling water flavored with berry, orange, or lemon-lime - all natural, unsweetened, and zero calorie. Just the way I like it.
Last but certainly not least, the machine comes with two reusable liter bottles that work with the machine. Casey is already hounding me to order more bottles, as the Soda Stream is his new favorite toy - he is obsessed.
I was scared of the CO2 tank, so Casey did the honors. You start by taking the tank and dropping it into the machine like so. When the tank is empty, you take it to any participating retailer (Williams-Sonoma and Sur La Table are both on the list!) and switch it out for a new tank. Kind of the same way you replace the tank for your gas grill.
With the tank screwed in and ready to go, Casey filled up the liter bottle with plain old tap water, and then screwed it into the front of the machine.
A few quick pumps of the lever, and suddenly there were BUBBLES!
It seriously took like five seconds, and before I knew it we had sparkling water!
Before I opened the box, I thought this machine would be big and bulky and need to be plugged in. I imagined it was kind of like a coffee maker - press a button, loud noises, wait 15 minutes for the drink to be ready. Boy was I wrong! The machine is not imposing at all, runs free standing on the CO2 tank, and the bottle went from tap water to sparkling water in 5 seconds flat!
Final review? The Soda Stream is absolutely awesome! Not only is it economical and totally convenient, I can sleep better at night knowing I'm not throwing away ten 2-liter bottles every week. These machines are a little bit on the pricey side, but when you consider how much you will save in the long run (especially if you are a soda drinker), I am sure the price is well worth it over time.
And here is the really good news. The nice folks at Soda Stream knew how much I liked my machine, and offered to give a start up package to one of my wonderful readers! Just for you...
