In the past few weeks, I have shared my thoughts and experiences on how Expecting Perfection Only Results in Failure and Workout Burnout: Overcoming the “Fitness Funk” so it is only fitting that I have been forced to put what I have learned to the test. In the past few days, I have felt fatigued. Not just tired, but physically fatigued. In addition, I have woken up the past few days with a sore throat that has progressively gotten worse. This morning, it hurt like heck. I took some medicine and went on with my morning. On a typical day, I am starved within the first hour of waking up.
But this morning, I had this odd “full” feeling. Okay, WEIRD. The morning continued and I just didn’t have an appetite. THIS NEVER HAPPENS. It took all I had to FORCE myself to eat. I was only able to down half of my container of Chobani and a bit of fruit. So odd. I figured that I would be so ridiculously hungry by lunchtime, but what do you know? Not hungry at all. Okay body, I get it… you’re being funky today.
By 3pm, I was “kind of” hungry and I managed to eat half a sandwich. I fell asleep for several hours (opting for this rest instead of the gym) and woke up around 7pm–STILL NOT HUNGRY. What the heck? So, I took more medicine (as I have been all day), called my mom for moral support, and headed out for the best form of medicine I know–a cherry Sprite Zero from Sonic and Chicken Noodle Soup. Not exactly eating clean, but it helps immensely. And it’s what the doctor mom ordered.
I have a long few days of work ahead of me and I have finally learned that my health comes first, and if that means rest over exercise then so be it. You have to do what is best for you and your body. End of story.
Being sick sucks, but as with everything, I just have to make the most of it and stay positive. I intend to do just that. Weak immune system ain’t got nothing on me! Watch out world!
