Reducing environmental toxins pre-conception

Posted Jul 29 2011 2:22am

Natural, green living is something that I am passionate about, and especially so when it comes to helping my clients prepare their bodies pre-conception to boost their natural fertility and ensure that they bring their future baby into this world with the best possible health. By ‘best possible health’ I mean thriving, optimal health and vitality.

A child’s health blueprint becomes the lowest common denominator of both prospective parents health at the time of conception” – Gabriela Rosa

Today, 1 in 6 couples in the Western world suffers from infertility or sub-fertility either from identified or unexplained causes. The focus is on medical intervention in order to bring about a pregnancy and Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) such as IVF and AI are incredible developments which allow grateful couples all over the world to have the baby of their dreams. However, knowledge is power, and there is so much that we can do to regain and maintain our natural fertility and/or support ART.  Fertile seeds of change are being sown as more and more people become aware of the impact of the environment and personal choices on their overall and reproductive health.

One of the ways to do this is by taking active steps to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals in our homes. These chemicals affect our natural biochemistry, including our endocrine system, ‘scrambling’ our hormonal messages and can lead to developmental defects in the foetus. Look for organic, 100% natural brands or make your own very simple toxin-free household cleansers . By reducing our exposure to these toxins our bodies are able to concentrate all their energy on reproduction and creating healthy babies. The gift of life-long optimal health begins pre-conception.

Here is a short video clip from Healthy Child Healthy World which highlights children’s (and our) daily exposure to chemicals.

This blog post is the first in a series of ‘Fertile Friday‘ to share information on how you can enhance your natural fertility to optimise your chances of a natural conception, increase success rates when using ART and guide you in creating the healthiest babies possible.

I would love to hear from any health professionals specialising in or with an interest in natural fertility interested in submitting a Fertile Friday guest post!
