Hi everyone! Thanks for the sweet compliments on Sophie’s outfit yesterday . We had so much fun dressing her up. My sister sent her the outfit with my parents as an Easter pressie. Such a sweet Auntie! I hope you’ve all enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend!
It is already week 6 of our Put a Spring in Your Step for Summer Challenge. I can’t believe so many weeks have gone by already since the beginning. Are you guys finding these posts useful? I know I have been thinking about previous weeks as I go. For example, i’m always trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables in my day and thinking about things to create balance in my life. Saving money is also a huge goal for me, so last weeks money challenge was a great one. Living in England, away from my family is hard and we try to take a trip to Canada at least twice a year. You can imagine how the cost of that can add up!! I am very lucky that my family are able to make it here for a visit too. Last April my sister and her family visited, last summer my mom and dad flew over and then over the last two weeks my parents have been here.
Anyway, on to the challenges for this week shall we?
Portion control
In my experience it is detrimental to yourself to say any food is off limits. Whenever I try to cut a type of food out of my diet it goes completely wrong and I just end up craving it more. I don’t think there is anything wrong with having treats every now and again (especially around the holidays!). But portion control is a must when eating any food. That is what I try to live by. Steve and I were just discussing this last night on our walk after dinner. He would really like to get into shape for summer too and I told him that I don’t think his eating is overly unhealthy but he is a man and he loves his food like any other man. He admits to occasionally snacking for the sake of it and having one (or three) more handfuls of chips than he should at times. Eating should be an enjoyable thing, but when you walk away from a meal and feel overly stuffed you know you’ve over done it (Chinese buffet anyone? Mom? haha). There is a time and place for everything!
This week take a look at what you are eating and ask yourself throughout the meal if you are still hungry. Slow down your eating. In my experience if I eat too fast I end up eating more. Put a little less on your plate. You can always go back for more.
Many of us probably have a bit of chocolate around the house from the past weekend. I am in no way saying not to eat the chocolate… are you kidding? But instead of eating the whole Easter bunny you received in one day, enjoy a little bit each day this week. It will make you feel better in the long run and you will look forward to that daily treat. Portion control is not about depriving yourself!
Review and revise your six week fitness plan for the next six weeks.
In week one , Ruby challenged everyone to write a six week fitness plan. This week your challenge is to revisit and review that plan you made six weeks ago. Questions to ask yourself:
- is it working?
- what areas can I change or improve on?
- should I be challenging myself more?
Basically this week I want you to figure out if your goals are working for you. If you have not done as much as you’d like in the last six weeks, how can you change things to help you succeed with this? Maybe you’ve found your plan to be too easy for you. How can you challenge yourself or push yourself even more? Can you run an extra mile this week? Sign up for a 5K race ? Make a plan! Believe in yourself.
…. oh and make sure you get moving! While this challenge this week is more of a “sit down and think” challenge.. you better be exercising still! Hopefully the weather is helping you out with that.
Visit a friend or family member who you’ve been meaning to see.
How often do you run into a friend or family member in the grocery store and say “we should get together sometime! Life has been so busy.”
How often do you post on someone’s wall on facebook and write “It’s been ages! We should hang out.”
I am so guilty of this! Especially with being so busy with work and my family. This is another thing that Steve and I chatted about this weekend. We are always saying we should get together with friends and days and weeks go by that it just doesn’t seem to happen. Before we know it Sophie is nearly one and friends or family of ours have only seen her a handful of times. We have such a good time with the friends we have that I think we get caught up in the routine of everyday life that time just slips by so quickly!
Sometimes you just need to sit and relax and enjoy the people around you!
The weather here has been amazing! Perfect hang out weather.
Good luck with this weeks challenges. Drop me a line to let me know how you are doing!
