Purple Patches, Persimmons, + Planes

Posted Nov 24 2009 10:02pm
How's that title for alliteration?

Phew! These past 2 days have felt like an entire week. I'm leaving for the airport tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning and my flight is at 12. Due to the time difference and the 4 hour plane ride, I won't be getting in until past 6 pm Michigan time! So weird to lose an entire day like that.

So you know the physical therapy bruise on my hip? That would be the aforementioned "purple patch." It's been transforming itself and now currently looks like this:

Cute, huh? Yea maybe not s'much. And now it does kind of hurt, but I guess in this case my pain tolerance of steel actually comes in handy. And judging from the color of my leg, it looks as if they were successful in tearing the muscle tissue that grew back wrong ;)

My physical therapy prescription "ran out" today, so I had to make an appointment with the ASU sports doc to get it extended. That'll be Monday-- and since it's almost Thanksgiving, I should note that I am SO thankful for health insurance. The insurance company probably isn't thankful for me, though ;)

Oh, and this comment from Naomi made me remember the other thing about persimmons:
"I think I am the only one who had a really strange reaction to a persimmon. It made my mouth so waxy and numb feeling! it was beyond wierd, i couldn't take another bite!"

So the huge thing is, if you bite into a persimmon that isn't ripe, it's HORRIBLY bitter and terrible. I've read that's because cause of the tannin that's in it. Apparently, it puts a lot of people off of persimmons cause it really tastes that bad. There are 2 types of persimmons: Fuyu and Hachiya.

I had a fuyu persimmon, which can be eaten out of your hand. They're an orangey -red color, and apparently can be eaten right from the store.

Hachiya persimmons should be deep orange without any green spots! When they're ripe, they should be squishy, kind of like a water balloon. Once they're ripe, store em in the refrigerator and use em quickly!

I got this information from here. Check it out for more facts about persimmons!

Ok here are the few lame pictures I have for today. Tomorrow should feature a nice homemade dinner, though! I'm excited :)

Classic apple oats:

And though I do love pumpkin oats, I have to admit--my hands are considerably less orange now ;)
Salad:

With a veggie burger and some frozen veggies, since I had no fresh ones left in the fridge.

Chocolate yogurt:

Oh, and that kinesiology test I took on 4 hours of sleep following a flu-fun-filled weekend? 93% baby! And I'm super proud of that, cause it's a total filter class. They make the tests HARD to get all the slackers and well, ill-fitted people out of the kinesiology major. I knew the answers, but I could spot all those little tricks and twists in the questions. Now I've just got the final left to ace ;)

Q: Do you like flying?

I definitely don't!! I mean if I had a superpower and I could fly, I'm sure that'd be awesome. I do not like planes, though! It doesn't help that I've probably seen every episode of Air Crash Investigation. And with the may- juh temperature change from AZ to MI, we do get a lot of turbulence. Thankfully now I do have anti-anxiety meds for when I fly so I don't get panic attacks anymore. Take it from me, panic attacks + planes do NOT mix well. Ha! But I know there are a ton of people who love to fly-- are you one of em? :)
