Happy hour last night ended up just being Hoagie and I, none of his co-workers were able to make it. We still had a good ol’ time. It was a beautiful night and we wandered around for awhile.
We started off with a beer at Rock Bottom. I know, I know, it’s a chain. But we loved the one back in King of Prussia and wanted to try this one out. Pretty standard, although the service was EXCELLENT. Something that cannot be said for the KOP Rock Bottom.
After that we thought some celebratory weekend champagne was in order, so we headed to Pops for Champagne . We have been here twice before and ordered single glasses of bubbly. We learned it’s much cheaper to just order a bottle. We ordered a bottle of the Charles Heidsieck Reserve and it was delicious.
The ambiance in Pops is so chill and relaxing. It’s definitely always busy but you don’t feel crowded at all. There’s also a jazz club downstairs, which we haven’t tried out yet but definitely want to.
The staff is SO friendly. Mike was our bartender, and he told us all kinds of great places in the city. He asked us what our favorite restaurant was, and we told him Keefers. He said if we thought Keefer’s steaks were good that we should Joe’s Stone Crabs. A seafood restaurant? He told us to give it a shot. And then proceeded to get us reservations for tonight. What kind of bar does that for you? So nice. We then had a long conversation with another bartender, whose name was Greg. He had gone on his honeymoon to Italy and he told us all kinds of useful information. Again, one of the most friendly people we’ve met here. Finally, another Greg, who was the manager, spent probably 45 minutes talking to us about Chicago.
Such an enjoyable experience and this is definitely one of our favorite spots in Chicago so far.
