pollen, pollen everywhere

Posted Apr 07 2010 12:00am

Literally. EVERYWHERE. Its official: spring time in southern VA! I look forward to detest this time of year. Thankfully I do not have allergies like many, many people but I just hate the yellow ickiness of pollen. Every time I wiped my face on my sleeve during my run today, my shirt became yellower and yellower. And my once-pretty shoes that were made less pretty by trail running, dirt, and general use, are now downright UGLY because they’re awkwardly yellow. My socks inside my shoes were yellow! My (black) car is 100% yellow. Do they have pollen in Texas? Sigh… probably.

But as you can tell I got my butt out of bed for a run. I have some hopeful big race plans, but for now I’m in lottery limbo so I won’t announce it until details are final. However, until I find out (next couple weeks) I’m concentrating on 3-4 mile runs for fitness, not longer runs for endurance. I ended up running a 5k in 32 minutes this morning, officially my best time and I wasn’t even trying that hard. In fact, my knee hurt pretty badly after a suitcase was hurtled at it yesterday (it also happens to be my surgery knee that hurts from time to time, even though my surgery was forever ago). But I managed to finish, pollen and all. I didn’t eat before because my stomach was feeling a little off. But when I got home my appetite did catch up with me and I had a big bowl of cereal, a rather rare breakfast for me!

1/2 cup flax bran, 1/2 cup Special K, 3/4 cup skim milk, banana

Sometimes I think I could eat an entire bunch of bananas in 1 day. I know they’re fruit and have good nutrients, but there’s something about the fact that they’re higher in calories than most fruit and more dense (at least to me) that stops me. What is the general consensus on bananas more than once a day?

Off to shower and head to work, then day #2 of nannying. The kids were given very firm lectures from me, their mother, and their mother and I TOGETHER and I actually think it might have sunk in. I’m fairly certain yesterday was mostly them trying to test the waters with the new babysitter, coming down off a sugar crash from Easter, and reacting to their changing home situation. Fingers crossed for a better Wednesday!
