October: Took a vacation down the river of “de Nile” – also know as wallowing and avoiding reality
November: Back on track; had a health awakening and began following a vegan diet
November – December: Began seeing a huge decline in health symptoms and experienced consistent weight loss (at a healthy rate of 1-2 lbs. per week) for the first time in three years
January 2012: Feeling better than ever… until I realized just how big of a dork I am after creating my second “vlog” (SCARY!)
Initially, I wasn’t adjusting so well to all of the changes, but I am happy to say now that I am in a much healthier place both physically and spiritually. This whole process has been a great learning experience for me. It has challenged the knowledge and ideologies I have about nutrition and health, and forced me to take a step back and reevaluate what it means to be healthy. What I have learned is that “health” is not the same for everyone and in order to be your best self you have to be open (and willing to do the work) to learn what it means for YOU. Once you do, the sky is the limit.
As I stated in the video and above, I am now playing my “V” card; I’m technically following a vegan, gluten-free, and mostly sugar-free diet. This means I consume no meat products, eggs, dairy, gluten or refined sugars. For all intensive purposes I claim only to be a vegetarian, simply because I do not follow a vegan lifestyle (one which utilizes no animal products – food or otherwise). Of course, I do allow myself to live a tiny bit and we can’t all be perfect all the time. I have my days where I allow my self a bit of wiggle room, but for the most part (and for my health) I stay on track. I find that with my body in its prime condition I notice the slightest glitch and know the consequences of “cheating” so to speak. That knowledge is truly powerful and really helps get me on track.
I wanted to wait to share this on CWYMO until I knew for sure if it was right for me. As I enter my third month following these lifestyle changes, I can say with confidence that I have no intentions of reverting. I feel FAR too good for that.
From here on out, unless otherwise noted recipes posted here will fit the above criteria. I hope that you enjoy the changes and continue to read CWYMO. This week I will be writing a follow-up post to discuss specifics about my healing process and how my lifestyle changes have helped.
