Playful Practice

Posted Dec 07 2012 10:39pm

I took THE most amazing yoga class tonight. There’s a new studio that opened up across the street from our house and I’ve been dying to try it out. I checked out the schedule and noticed they had a late class that focused solely stretching and getting rid of the week’s stresses and also had wine at the end. SOLD!

I haven’t been to a yoga class that focused on stretching in so long and I was feeling it hardcore when I tried to wrap my leg around my arms. Let’s just say I’m not quite there yet and I need a few more classes or I’m going to seriously hurt myself. Once I start taking more classes I’ll be more flexible, but I didn’t push too hard I just played around with what I felt comfortable with.

In the beginning of the class our teacher made the point that you should always be playful with your practice and the things you take too seriously. How we shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves when things don’t go our way. This is something I’ve been working on personally so it struck a cord with me. I decided to play around with poses I wasn’t 100% sure on instead of getting upset if I wasn’t doing them like everyone else and it made all the difference in the world.

The remainder of the evening will be spent cozied up on the couch with my new magazine and a cup of chamomile.

Late yoga class, wine, magazines, and tea just the way I like my Friday nights!
