Philly Color Run & Half Training Week 1

The first week of my training for the Rock’n’Roll Philly half is over!  Week 1 went over fairly well.  My total miles for the week ended up at 9.49 miles.  I got my tempo run sorted on Thursday after work.  I didn’t factor in any of the running that happened during soccer on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Saturday instead of the 4 mile long run, I was signed up to participate with friends in the Color Run in Philly at XFinity Live!.

IMAG0098 I got down to the race around 8:00am and went to pick up my race packet and meet the group.  We had about eight of us running together.  The place was a sea of mostly white while we waited for our wave to be released.  We decided to run, but not at a hard effort and if we had to walk through any of the color zones it was fine.  I didn’t bring my Garmin or anything, but did have my Fitbit safely stashed on me.

Once our wave was on the course we jogged with the other runners throughout the sports complex.  We hit a water station a mile in and then finally looped to hit the first of the color zones.

It was perfectly overcast and not humid which made it really pleasant.  The first color zone was my favorite, blue!  We got all dyed up and moved on to purple, yellow, pink, and then orange.  We got to the Rainbow Row finish area probably about 35ish minutes after we started our way.  Not too bad!  We grabbed our color packets and waited for the rest of our group to meet up before unloading them on each other.

IMAG0114 HAPPY!  We also made sure to hang out and enjoy some of the post-race dance party before heading to XFinity Live! for a beer and some lunch.

IMAG0107 IMAG0108 I still have some blue dye that hasn’t quite faded yet.  The Color Run this year was a blast and we’re already talking about plans for next year, including post-race tailgating!  A fun end to my first week of race training, for sure.  ;)

Week two is kicking off later with an easy 3 mile run around 10:00 pace.  I’ve got soccer again on Tues, Wed, & Sun, 4 miles of speedwork on Thurs, and a long run of 5 miles on Saturday.  The aim is going to be 12 miles total.  We’ll see how it goes!  :)
